The Old Broadway is located in what was originally called The Edwards Building, which started construction in 1900 and opened for business by its main tenant, Alex Stern and Company, in 1903. Stern and Company operated in the space for 51 years before closing and became the S&L Department Store in 1954, and later the Herbst Department Store before transitioning to the restaurant we see today.
Opened as a restaurant in 1975 (that still exists on the true corner of NP and Broadway) by Katherine Haug. In 1977, the Old Broadway opened what is reported to be the first Disco in Fargo and added evening hours. In the years since, the OB has transitioned to a three-themed building with the Old Broadway Restaurant, The OB City Club (replacing the Disco), and the OB Sports Zone in the West side of the building. The club went under major renovations in the Summer of 2016 that expanded the building towards Broadway, and constructed new bars within City Club and Sports Zone.
