Originally built for the “International Order of Oddfellows” in 1893, The building that the Hotel Donaldson occupies was one of the first buildings in Downtown after the historic fire that destroyed most of Downtown Fargo. Records show that it was 1915-16 when the building was renovated to the hotel that is still in business today.
Originally billed as a “modern european hotel”, the 2nd and 3rd floors featured the rooms with retail on the first floor of the building. This concept largely continued until 2001 when Karen Stocker purchased the building and business transitioning and improving the building with the current bar and restaurant concept on the first floor debuting in 2003.
The Bar and Restaurant as they are seen today are more upscale compared to the other bars and eateries in Downtown Fargo, and still displays the historical features of the building throughout.
