While Sudro Hall is a relatively new building, the Pharmacy program that works out of it is not. The university first started its pharmacy program in 1902 when the university was known as North Dakota Agricultural College. This was at a time when North Dakota was only the fourth state in the nation to require a registered pharmacist. The construction for Sudro Hall began in 1959 as a huge step to help improve the pharmacy program which was originally housed in the Chemistry Building and Francis Hall. The university received money for construction through the State Legislature which appropriated $550,000 and from a donation of $125,000 from the Health Research Facilities Division of the National Institutes of Health. The building was completed in 1960 and in 1961 the pharmacy program made its move into its new home.
